Brunchin’ in Boston: Vinebrook Tavern

I literally talk about brunch more than I talk about anything else. All week I wait for the glorious meal that is brunch. Though sometimes being vegan….the food is not so glorious. Luckily, mimosas are always there to fix that. Bad veggie meal? Waiter, one more mimosa, please.

What some local brunch spots are lacking in vegan food, they thankfully can’t mess up with their alcohol. So when my friends and I make our weekly trek to a new brunch spot, I am always hopeful their will be a kick ass vegan option, but am always prepared for a really mediocre veggie burger or awful tofu scramble.

But at Vinebrook Tavern, a spot that is hardly vegan-friendly (though VERY vegetarian-friendly), my omnivorous friends will likely be jealous of their epic, life-changing plant-based option.

Though meat eaters will absolutely go crazy for this cozy, charming, rustic spot in Lexington center and all their incredibly impressive meat options (hey, I can admit that even if I am vegan!), I think they’ve done a stellar job in recognizing their meat-free clientele as well.

I recently attended a Boston Blogger brunch at Vinebook and while I had the pleasure of dining on their awesome Brussels sprouts and quinoa meatballs in the past, I had yet to try any lunch options. Also known as their “Blunch” menu, it’s full of things like cast iron eggs, burgers, a loaded breakfast burrito and a challah French toast that everyone else at their brunch RAVED about. At first, I was not so optimistic I was going to have a great vegan experience here.

But I was 150% wrong.

The entire table ended up being jealous of my overly impressive deconstructed tofu burrito and they were all clamoring over me to Instagram photos of this incredible dish. I was blown away by the sheer creativity of it-which is thanks in part to the sous chef being vegetarian. And not only was it one of the best looking meals I’ve ever been served, but it was hands down, the MOST delicious. And that’s saying a lot for an experienced bruncher like myself. The tofu was perfectly crispy, the pico de gallo with just the right amount of kick….and the potatoes. I don’t understand how some breakfast spots totally mess up potatoes, but Vinebrook absolutely nails it. If you want to experience perfect potatoes….go here. You don’t even have to order anything else. Just order their homefries and you will be a happy camper.

Added to the amazing vegan meal is their exquisite drink offerings. Though you can enjoy their typical mimosas and Bloody Marys, they have a fantastic list of booze options I can’t wait to try. The atmosphere is gorgeous, too and suits the small-town Lexington feel perfectly. It’s intimate and cozy, yet insanely spacious and can accommodate for huge groups and parties. The decor is very homey, which whiskey barrel light fixtures, local photographs of well-known landmarks and even sliding barn doors downstairs. Americana bar chic, is what I like to call it. Perfect for date night, family night or a good start for a solid brunch and day drinking if you’re me and my crew.

Check this place out as soon as you can! The vegan option isn’t on the menu but the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating for the plant-based bruncher 🙂
