Like Meat Review

Y’all. You can stop looking for the best chicken replacement on the planet, because I HAVE FOUND IT.

If you haven’t heard, I’m a chicken mama now. Yes, we got six backyard chickens a few months ago, like everyone else who got into banana bread-baking, kombucha making and other homesteading projects during the pandemic.

So my girls were incredibly excited to see these faux nuggets and meats from Like Meat in our house. Probably NOT as excited as Andrew, because most fake meats are not gluten-free and he usually can’t enjoy them with me. And I was super happy to see an incredibly short list of ingredients in each of their products, which include nuggets, grilled chicken, BBQ chicken and regular chicken pieces.

I had big hopes and dreams for recipes with these babies. Hearty stews, elaborate salads, epic sandwiches. But honestly, they were SO good as tacos, almost all of them ended up in some type of tortilla. Y’all know tacos are my favorite food group, so I just couldn’t resist!

The nuggets honestly may have been my top choice, especially since they had GF breading. They looked SO legit and weren’t gritty or rubbery like a lot of other brands I’ve tried. The grilled version were my second favorite, and next round I buy, I will definitely make some kebobs. They ALL have incredible taste and texture and I’d be willing to bet most people would NOT know that they were plant-based. They’re primarily soy protein based with only a few other spices added, and that’s it, which I truly appreciate when trying to avoid overly processed vegan products with lots of additives and preservatives.

And not to brag, but I honestly think these are some of the most beautiful taco plates to ever exist. Agreed?!

Check out Like Meat to find where you can score some! I know locally, they’re all around Sprouts in Denver, which makes me incredibly pleased 🙂
