The following is a list of all the things I felt upon returning from the west coast:
1.) Jetlag
2.) Severe exhaustion from lack of sleep
3.) Stomach issues (I won’t go into details) from eating so many foods I’m not used to while I was away
4.) Excruciating leg and foot pain (walking 8 miles a day in heels will do that to you)
5.) Acute depression from coming back to dreary, freezing Boston
6.) My skin also looked like shit from the traveling, lack of removing makeup every night and excessive alcohol consumption. And from reasons 1 and 2.
Clearly, I was a hot mess.
Which was why I was BEYOND thrilled to have a one day juice cleanse from Boston’s newest raw vegan juice delivery cleanse company, BRU’S waiting for me when I got home.
Soul sisters Jessica and Erika Sweeney both have a passion for all things healthy living and BRU’S is a perfect representation of their devotion to holistic healing. Jessica of Be Well By Jess is a blog I’d followed for quite some time and truly loved. She’s an IIN graduate, yoga instructor and a health and nutrition coach. Girl is a triple threat! Alongside her equally amazing sister, they formed this incredible juice company that has the best, and I mean, the absolute BEST juice cleanse I’ve ever had. Seriously! And it’s not just because of their super cute packaging and inspiring cleanse instructions.
I truly enjoyed every single one of their drinks. Usually when I get a cleanse, there’s one I have to choke down, but not this time. Maybe it was because my body was so desperately seeking nutrition, but all 8 juices (plus a shot elixir) was super yummy.
BRU’S is fairly new, so they are strictly delivery for the time being, serving suburbs in the Boston area-if you email them directly about an order they will likely make the trek out to wherever you are! They are working on various pick up locations and a store front, to offer a variety of ways to get your juice on. I honestly couldn’t be more excited about such amazing juices being available locally. And if you have yet to try a juice cleanse, I HIGHLY recommend making BRU’S your first experience. Even if you’re a seasoned cleanser, like myself, I think you’ll be ecstatic about their selection of juices. They also let you choose from certain brews so that you aren’t stuck with blends that may not suit your needs or particular tastes.
So here it is! My review of the insanely awesome drinks from BRU’S!
SUNSHINE SHOT: Damn, this tiny shot really started the cleanse off with a bang! This turmeric, ginger, lemon, ACV, honey, cayenne elixir is to be mixed with water, probably because it’s super potent. Some people might have trouble with the intensity of this drink, but if you’re used to drinking ACV or water with lemon and cayenne, it’ll be no problem. It even took me some time to drink it all, but boy, did it wake me right up! Bye, bye jetlag!
GREEN ORCHARD: For such a green-heavy juice, this one was absolutely delicious. Usually green juices leave a bitter, tough taste in your mouth, and this one hardly had any sweetness to it. But it went down easy and I was actually craving more!
PANGO:..which was great that I was craving more, because my Pango smoothie (pear, mango, kale, spinach and protein powder) was next and it was probably my fave of the whole cleanse. It was nice getting another not-so-sweet dose of greens in the smoothie consistency and it really filled me up. For some reason, I could really taste the protein powder and L-O-V-E-D it. The greatest part of this smoothie was the options they give you-they let you choose the Pango version OR Paradise, which is pineapple, banana, turmeric, ginger, spinach cucumber, chia seed and coconut water. That option seemed like too much sugar for me personally and I don’t love turmeric, and had already got my dose with the sunshine shot, so the Pango was perfect for me. So happy to have the freedom to choose though!
PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Extra bonus points because Pineapple Express is one of my favorite movies. This one was cucumber, pear, pineapple and mint, which was obviously sweeter than the others, but still not overwhelming sugar heavy. The kids I nanny for tried this one and they were actually mad that I wouldn’t share more than a sip!
BEETS BY J: This was another one I got to choose for myself, and I picked this one over there 24 Carrots, because I’m finding that I’m slightly allergic to raw carrots (weird, I know). I don’t love beet juice either (clearly, I’m not a huge sugar fan), but this was actually awesome. It had a nice balance of ginger and small doses of carrots and I may have drank this one the fastest. And hello-the color is stunning! Usually when I get a beet juice they’re kind of chalky and a little chunky, but this was smooth and delicious.
GREENIE IN A BOTTLE: By the time I got to this I was super full! It took me awhile to drink it, probably because there’s no fruit at all in this one, but I still enjoyed. It probably didn’t help that I was consuming it before I met my brother and a friend for a movie and we were stopping at Kelly’s before we went in (barf). Sipping green juice while your friends eat fries and roast beef is not a great environment for cleansing. Regardless, my brother actually tried it and he didn’t hate it! This is HUGE since my brother lives on junk food and NEVER even touches anything green.
(shout out to my brother for trying it!)
VANILLA WARRIOR MILK: This was like dessert at the end of the day. I enjoyed it during the movie and was super sad when I chugged the whole thing before we even got through the opening credits. Here, you had another option to go vanilla or chocolate and I chose vanilla, which was sprouted almonds, vanilla, stevia, water and cranberry, hemp and pea protein. It has the same consistency and similar taste to any sweetened almond milk I buy at Whole Foods except this one is obviously much healthier. By the way, the movie I’m referring to is American Sniper. Go see it if you haven’t!
MOON JUICE HERBAL ELIXIR: If I HAD to choose my least favorite of the cleanse (even though there’s really no such thing) it would be this moon juice. The taste was great, don’t get me wrong, I’m just not a huge tea person to begin with and if I do drink it, I like it super hot. So it’s really just a matter of personal preference here. I will say though, I drank it before bed, and slept SO great! Maybe it was the whole cleanse itself or the chamomile in the tea, but whatever the case, I was well rested after!
So though all my travel ailments were not solved after one day of cleansing, I certainly felt a hell of a lot better than I did going into it. My digestion has been completely reset (I’ll spare you those details) and my energy levels are way up. My hair and skin is looking MUCH better which I am super happy about. My foot pain still prevails, but that’s not something I would think even a million green juices could solve. Overall, this was hands down, the BEST cleanse I’ve ever done and I want you to try it out! Email BRU’S at drinkbrus@gmail.com, mention The Vegan Pact and you’ll get $5 off your first order. Happy juicing!
Great juice names!
Aren’t they?! They taste even better!
