I’ve got to give Boston a round of applause.
As much as I hate on the city, and long for a home on the west coast, where vegan restaurants are plentiful, I must admit…. Boston is really catching onto a healthier way of living.
I cook in Beacon Hill and Back Bay a lot and am shocked at the number of juice bars, vegan spots and overall healthy eatery options that have been sprouting up all over the place. My latest venture landed me at the newly opened Freshii in Back Bay, which is part of a growing, popular chain already located in other spots around Boston.
On the day of my visit, I hiked from my Beacon Hill client’s to the Dartmouth Street location with 20 labs of groceries and my massive camera in sweltering heat, dressed like it was still winter. The 2 mile trek had me absolutely ravenous and I almost kissed the gleaming new floors at Freshii upon my arrival. I had difficulty from the get-go because I literally wanted everything on the menu. They have plenty of non-vegan options, but many of their signature soups, salads, wraps, bowls, burritos and even breakfast options, have a vegan version and can have tofu subbed in. I was almost overwhelmed with the plethora of choices. A large portion of their ingredients are locally-sourced and organic, depending on the season and everything is ridiculously fresh.
I had the please of enjoying their Teriyaki Twist with brown rice, edamame, wonton strips, carrots, broccoli and tofu. I scarfed it down with their deliciously refreshing Mighty Detox Juice (pineapple, ginger apple, kale, celery, cucumber) and a coconut milk iced coffee, and finished it off with an 88 Acres bar (also a local product) and was perfectly satisfied in doing so. The food came out in no time at all, and I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it ewes for something that was put together so quickly. I’m always skeptical of things that are produced in under 5 minutes, but this was the exception.
The space at Freshii is absolutely ideal for posting up for the day, working on a laptop and enjoying the beautiful, serene decor. I’ve never seen such a naturally designed place. Everything is made from eco-friendly materials, right down to the locally crafted wooden tables. Bright green plants, hanging pails holding utensils and lots of open, natural lighting make you feel as though you’re outdoors. Considering it’s smack dab in the middle of the city, it’s a serene, calm space that I’d be happy to spend hours in, blogging and emailing and indulging in all their delicious food.
So if you’re looking for a healthy breakfast to go, midday lunch or a chill spot to work in, look no further than Freshii!
