I am FOREVER advocating for getting kids in the kitchen, cooking, baking and learning about their food and where it comes from.
When I was nannying or spending time with my nieces, chances are, I was trying to convince them to blend their own smoothies, make healthy treats and desserts. I taught cooking classes to kindergartners for about a year and watched how proud they were over creating their own snacks and meals. Even though it was messy AF, the result was always worth it. And I 100% believe kids are better behaved when they’re baking! Collecting utensils and ingredients, measuring things-it fills them with a sense of importance and pride, and they are MUCH better behaved. It works, try it!
But Scratch & Kitchen baking kits, makes cooking with kids a hell of a lot easier and more organized. Their yummy, pre-portioned boxes are perfect for kids, especially around the holidays and not only make a great gift for the little chef in your life, but is also a fun holiday activity. Cookies, bars, cupcakes can all be made in a cinch, without creating a disaster in your kitchen. Their mixes are almost all organic, with natural ingredients and can easily be made vegan by subbing simple things like butter, eggs and cream cheese.
These cute kits come with all their dry ingredients, pre-packaged and chronologically number for the recipe. They couldn’t be easier to follow and include just a few steps. Some mixes call for adding things like oil, eggs or butter, in which I just subbed almond milk, flax eggs, Earth Balance or coconut oil, and they worked out just fine!
I received their pumpkin bars, holiday cupcakes, cornbread and chocolate chip cookies. They were all equally as easy to follow and bake, though I found the cornbread and cookies to be the simplest, and worked the best with the vegan alternatives. They cupcakes tasted AMAZING (though I made them for Steve’s car’s birthday back in October, rather than waiting and using their Christmas-themed sprinkles for the holiday), they just didn’t fluff up quite as well with the flax eggs-I should have used aquafaba!
Check out the pictures below to see how they work and order some for the chef-in-training on your holiday gift list!
