At this point in my life, I can’t imagine I will EVER buy store-bought non-dairy milk again.
Because making it at home is seriously sooooo much better, and it’s usually just soaked nuts and water. None of the fillers, preservatives, gums or weird ingredients that even the best-quality, organic variations Whole Foods still contain.
Cashew, almond, coconut, hemp, Brazil nut, walnut, pumpkin seed…you name it, and I’ve probably made it at home and had fresh, delicious non-dairy milk at a fraction of the cost.
EXCEPT…sunflower seeds!
I have always been bad with sunflower seeds. My sunflower butter never turned out quite right and I’ve never mastered tahini making. So, lucky me, that I now live somewhere that has an incredibly tasty sunflower milk blending up right in my neighborhood, thanks to Sun Milk!
This smooth, creamy, nutty milk is composed of just sunflower seeds, sunflower lecithin and filtered water, and has a really yummy tahini undertone that makes it ideal for baking, cooking and using in any type of savory dish. It’s thick consistency makes it great for heavier sauces, dressings and even smoothies. I used it for all these things and more, and found that it really elevated some of my favorite recipes like buffalo cauliflower, cauliflower Alfredo and a basic ol’ green smoothie.
The denser, heavier consistency made for an extra awesome binding agent for cauliflower, as I imagine it would for any recipe that requires dredging or coating of some kind. The same goes for blending sauces-the condemned sunflower seeds make for a smoother and more luxurious sauce, as opposed to almond, coconut or rice milk. And the smoothies! Creamier, richer and much more filling 🙂
Sun Milk is currently available at Nooch, with tons of other fantastic vegan products. And also available by order online-do yourself a favor and grab some ASAP!
