Meatball Calzone

I’m typically not one to even post recipes that contain a lot of faux cheeses or meats, but this one is just too freakin’ good not to share.

And honestly, if I wasn’t crashing at people’s houses right now, waiting to get into a new apartment, I probably would have been a bit more creative/healthier with the filling options. But I was trying to not buy too many ingredients to stash in my friend’s fridges, so I kept it to scaled back to just buying some frozen meats, Follow Your Heart cheeses and mostly carbs and fake stuff.

Mostly because this most recent move has been SUPER annoying and I’m just indulging in all the comfort foods. And honestly, is there anything more comforting than just a big, ol’ pizza pocket? Didn’t think so!

I can foresee myself making a buffalo or BBQ chicken variation of this and throwing in some green things like kale, spinach or zucchini.

But for now-enjoy this truly decadent, savory, meatball calzone!

1 package pizza dough, divide into thirds

1 package, Yves pepperoni, sliced in halves

1/2 bag, Trader Joe’s meatballs, cooked and halved (the gardein ones would also work well)

1/2 block, Follow Your Heart mozzarella, shredded

2 cups marinara or pizza sauce

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Roll out each individual piece of pizza dough (should be about the size of a small pizza/tortilla)
  • Mix together meatballs, pepperoni, cheese and sauce
  • Scoop 1/3 of the mixture onto half of the the dough, then fold over
  • Repeat for all three, and brush a little olive oil and salt over the top and the sides to seal
  • Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes
