Neat food, indeed!
These pre-made vegan, gluten-free packages from Neat are like a mini science experiment. Composed of nothing more than chickpea flours, some nuts and yummy spices, you simply mix their “egg” mix with water and add to the main dish packaging. Various choices include Mexican mix, an Italian mix, a breakfast mix and their original mix, which is prime for veggie burgers. All you do is blend them together and in less than 10 minutes, you have a full, delicious meal! Perfect for busy nights, and versatile enough to make tons of different dishes, adding mixes from Neat should be part of your weekly dinner routine!

“EGG” MIX: Not much to say about the egg mix, considering it’s just a chia seed binder that makes the meals hold together. It’s got no flavor to it, but I have to say it definitely made the MOST yolky (is that a word?) vegan “egg” I’ve ever had. It was gloopy and stringy, and had a great stick to it once mixed with water. I know, I know. Such eloquent words to describe it, huh?
MEXICAN MIX: I tried to get a little more technical with the Mexican mix, which may have been why it was a bit dry. The texture was definitely there, I think it just didn’t bind together all that well because I added corn and jalapenos to the same pan when I started cooking the Neat mix. The flavor was spot on, and even though they were a bit messy, they made for some seriously delicious tacos. Sorry Neat, for messing up such an easy-to-put-together meal!
ORIGINAL MIX: These were, hands down, the meatiest looking vegan burgers I have ever feasted on! They charred up perfectly on a skillet after just a few minutes, and I was shocked at how much they reminded me of of their animal-based counterpart. They had an awesome spice to them as well, and paired well with some avocado cream sauce and salsa.
While I am most interested in the Original Mix. I plan to try all of the Neat varieties at some point.
